Wappen von Dannewerk/Arms (crest) of Dannewerk
Official blazon
German In Gold über einer wachsenden roten Ziegelmauer zwei aufrechte einander zugewendete rote Ochsenhörner, deren Spitzen sich kreuzen.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 1, 2000.

The upper part shows two oxen-horns for the historical Ochsenweg (Ox-road) that runs through the municipality. This road was a main thoroughfare for many centuries and thus played an important role in the local history. The base shows the Waldemarsmauer (wall of Waldemar), an ancient wall which was built as a defence and border between Denmark and Schleswig. Whereas the road opened the area for the outside world, the wall restricted it. Both the road and the wall still (partly) exist.
