Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 9, 1820 and again on August 9, 1820.

The arms were probably devised in the early 19^th century and are canting for the French name of the town, Tourneppe (Tour=tower). There are only two seals known of the local council. One from 1655, showing the arms of Witthem van Beersel, Lord of Dworp at the time. A later seal, dating from 1703 shows a shield with a single chevron.
