The villages of Fígols and Alinyà merged in a new municipality in 1972. The arms show this duality: the first partition is for Fígols, and the arms are canting; there is a "figuera" in them (Catalan for "fig-tree"). The second partition shows the valley of Alinyà (in silver because the river Perles -that literally means "pearls" in Catalan- flows along it), and the golden thistle on gules, taken from the canting arms of Cardona (a Catalan "card" is a thistle). In fact, the village of Alinyà belonged, in the medieval times, to the dukes of Cardona.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 28, 1993.
