Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1947.

The arms show in the lower half a fleur-de-lys and the symbol for iron. This composition was used as arms by the Fagersta iron works. The company applied for a royal decree to register the arms, which was rejected in 1941 as arms could not be registered by companies.

When Fagersta city was created in 1944, it was decided to use the arms for the new city, with the addition of a chief. The wavy chief refers to the Strömsholm canal and the winged wheels to the importance of the railways for the area.

Literature: Nevéus and de Waern, 1992
