This Wing was created in 1944 out of the Remains of the Heavy Fighter Wing (Zerstörergeschwader) 26 "Horst Wessel", it inherited the Insigna and name of the former unit. Wessel composer of the Horst Wessel song and Member of the SA was killed in brawl with Communists in 1930. Seen by Nazi Propaganda as a "Martyr".

This Wing was created in 1944 out of the Remains of the Heavy Fighter Wing (Zerstörergeschwader) 26 "Horst Wessel", it inherited the Insigna and name of the former unit. Wessel composer of the Horst Wessel song and Member of the SA was killed in brawl with Communists in 1930. Seen by Nazi Propaganda as a "Martyr".
