Fortia.jpg

Official blazon

Escut caironat partit: 1r. faixat d'or i de gules; 2n. d'argent, 2 faixes de sable. Per timbre una corona mural de poble.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on September 22, 1989.

Fortià, where the queen Sibilla (the fourth wife of the king Peter III the Cerimonious) was born, belonged to the county of Empúries. The first partition shows the arms of the counts (barry or and gules), and the second partition shows the arms of the local landlords, the Fortià family (argent, two black bars).
