Spanish	Escudo terciado en banda. Primero, partido: primero, de gules, un castillo de oro y segundo, de plata, un león de gules. Segundo, de plata, un brazo armado y desprovisto de guantelete que estrecha la mano a otro brazo, éste desnudo, todo en su color natural. Tercero, la isla de Tenerife emergiendo de las aguas del mar, con el Teide en erupción, todo en su color natural. Bordura de sinople, con ocho arados de oro. Al timbre, corona real abierta.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 2, 1928.

The part in the centre is an image of the scene, in which Alonso Fernández de Lugo, commander in chief of the Castilian troops, is sealing a "peace without bloodshed" with Añaterve, the Guanches chief of Güímar (the Guanches were the native people of Tenerife). So the incorporation of Tenerife Island into the Castilian monarchy became easier. Also the other parts are referring to this act, the left chief shows the coat of arms of Castilia and Leon, the dexter base is symbolizing the isle of Tenerife.

The ploughs upon the bordure are symbolizing agriculture, the golden colour is a symbol of riches.
