German Im durch einen schrägrechten silbernen Wellenbalken geteilten Schild oben in Rot einen aus dem Wellenbalken hervorgehenden goldenen Zinnenturm, unten in Schwarz einen sechsstrahligen silbernen Stern.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 27, 1984.

The tower symbolises the Schönstein castle in the municipality. The bend is the Gilsa river, after which the municipality is named. The star refers to the former County Ziegenhain, to which the area historically belonged.
