GREYSTONES

County : Wicklow

Greyston.jpg

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The rocky terras at the base of the shield evidently calls to mind the name of the town. The azure blue compartment represents the sea and the fish therein, the historic links of the town harbour with the fishing industry. The twin chevronels symbolise the Great and Little Sugarloaf peaks while the two oak-leaf branches typify the woodland character of the town's environs.

The motto, 'Gniomhach idir Carraig is Cruacha' means 'active between rock and mountain peaks'.
