Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1925.

Grobina was founded as a Viking trading post in the land of the Kurši named Grobina (from Curonian "gruobs" - "splinter").

In 1695 the duke of Kurzeme Friedrich Casimirus granted to Grobina, called then Grobin in German, town rights, a seal and arms. He found the prototype of arms in German armorials. It shows a crane, holding a stone in the lifted foot. The duke wished that inhabitants of Grobina should be careful and vigilant. See the arms on the seal below:

In 1925 a new design of the arms was confirmed.
