Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: On a gray, vertical rectangle arched convexly at top and bottom, a yellow triangular shape, point up superimposed with a gray hawk detailed blue swooping toward the base. All edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border. Attached above the rectangle, a gray scroll with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border inscribed “HERMON” in blue letters. Attached below the rectangle, a gray scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border inscribed “HAWKS” in blue letters. The overall dimensions are 2 5/8 inches (6.67 cm) in width and 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height.

Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: A gold color metal and enamel curvilinear device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in width overall consisting of a blue trefoil displaying a vertically centered, gold torch lighted with a red flame and overlaid with a gold hawk. It is depicted in three-quarter view to the left with wings spread horizontally. Attached below is a gold scroll inscribed “LEAD BY EXAMPLE” in blue letters.

Origin/meaning

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: Blue and gold are the school colors. The hawk is the school’s mascot and is symbolic of the cadets’ winning spirit. The yellow pyramid shape represents strength and fortitude.

Shoulder Loop Insignia: Blue and gold are the school colors. The hawk represents the cadets’ winning spirit. The torch alludes to knowledge.

The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and the Shoulder Loop Insignia was both approved on 15 November 2001.
