IULTINSKY RAYON (Иультинский район)

Federal subject : Chukotka Autonomous Okrug

Arms (crest) of Iultinsky Rayon

Official blazon

В червленом поле с морем в виде лазоревой оконечности - стоящий на выходящем слева золотом берегу серебряный медведь; вдоль правого края две серебряные двухлучевые звезды - одна в червленом поле, другая в лазоревой оконечности.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on April 7, 2006.

The arms show a polar bear, the largest of the many animal species in the district. The bear stands on a piece of soil, which is a canting element. The name of the capital of the district, Egvekinot, means 'sharp solid ground' in the local Chukchi langeuage.

The two stars indicate that the district is (far) above the Arctic circle and within the district the Arctic circle crosses the 180 degree meridian.
