Wapen van Kachtem

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on September 29, 1952.

The arms are based on the arms of Filip-Norbert van der Meere, who became Lord of Kachtem in the early 18th century and was promoted to the rank of Count of Kachtem in 1741. His family remained in possession of the estate until the end of the 18th century and thus were the last Lords of Kachtem.

The arms show in the first and fourth quarter the arms of the Van der Meere family, showing three water lily leaves. The second and third quarter show the arms of the Wedergraet family, added to the arms of the family in the 16th century through marriage. The escutcheon shows the arms of the Thienne family.

Literature: Servais, 1955
