The monastery in [[Amorbach]] owned much of the land in the village from the 12<sup>th</sup> century until 1803, when all the wordly possessions of the clergy were dismantled. Kirchzell was part of the Amt Wildenberg of the state of Mainz (governed by the Prince-Bishops), since the 13<sup>th</sup> century. Origin/meaning
