In 1561 King Ferdinand I elevated the community to the status of a townlet. The coat-of-arms bestowed on it on this occasion represents a divided shield with a half of white eagle in the right section and a lynx in the left section; the town's coat-of-arm is a part of the fam­ily coat-of-arms of the Zďd'arskýs of Zďar, local lords at that time.
