Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 21, 1995.

There have been numerous windmills in the town until 1865 when the last wooden windmill burned down. The new mill was made of metal instead of wood and had the very unusual number of five wings, instead of four. The mill was torn down before the first World War. One of the main dikes in the area was know as the milldike or swandike. From the latter name the swan was taken as a symbol.
