Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on November 20, 1822 confirmed with an additional crown in 1838 and again granted on April 4, 1981.

The Lords of Rœulx used since the 13th century three golden lions in red on their arms. These were also used by the city until the late 16th century, when the current arms appear on the city seal. The arms have not changed since.
