Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 7, 1974.

The arms are mainly based on the arms of two ruling families in the region. The chief shows three hammers, taken from the arms of the family Von Stein. The main shield shows a devise to carry beer-barrels and is taken from the arms of the Von Horneck von Weinheim family. The base shows the Zeilbergen-mountains, symbol for the basalt mining and the mountains in the region in general. The upper division line refers to the local rivers.
