Origin/meaning

The arms refer to the former and currently important economic activities. The wheatears are a symbol for agriculture, the oak leaves for forestry. The lower half refers to the slate mining in the area. The lion is taken from the arms of the Counts of Sayn, to whom the area historically belonged.
