The arms probably simply indicate the local hills and forests. The arms appear for the first time in 1547 in the Nostell Priory church in England (!). Why the arms are shown there is not known. Similar images of the arms date also from the mid 16th century and the arms thus have not changed since. In the 19th century until 1936 the municipality used mainly the shield of the Canton Zug and no separate arms. Only in 1936 the current arms were officially restored.

Canton : Zug

Wappen von Menzingen (Zug)/Arms (crest) of Menzingen (Zug)

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms probably simply indicate the local hills and forests. The arms appear for the first time in 1547 in the Nostell Priory church in England (!). Why the arms are shown there is not known. Similar images of the arms date also from the mid 16th century and the arms thus have not changed since. In the 19th century until 1936 the municipality used mainly the shield of the Canton Zug and no separate arms. Only in 1936 the current arms were officially restored.

Only the Coffee Hag image, see below, shows the arms with the inverted arms of the Canton Zug.
