MOGILNO

Province: Kujawy i Pomorze
County: Mogilno
Additions : 19?? Gębice

Arms of Mogilno
Official blazon
Polish blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The origins of this symbol go back to the year 1065 when the Polish King Boleslaw Smialy founded a Benedictine Convent in this area - erecting a monastery complex for them - thus forming a new settlement.
The original arms for Mogilno showed three crosses. The three crosses represent the Benedictines - the first settlers. Mogilno was then a property of the Benedictines so the three crosses seam to be very natural and logical symbol for the town.

During the centuries different versions of the arms existed, with crosses, lilies and swords, see the images below.
