Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: An embroidered disc 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter overall consisting of the head and neck of a buff colored Cougar detailed black and white with a black tongue and white eyes in 3/4 profile upon a representation of a green Mount Mitchell under a white sky, with a partial black circle around the mountain and the head, inscribed within a green band edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border “MOUNTAIN HERITAGE” at top and “COUGARS” in base in white letter 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.

Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: On a Silver color metal and enamel irregular shield shaped device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned: Per pall Vert, Argent and Sable, in chief a Cougar stalking, in dexter a Trillium and in sinister a lamp of knowledge all Proper. Attached below, a Green scroll with Black folds inscribed “MOUNTAIN HERITAGE” base metal letters

Origin/meaning

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: Green, black and white are the school colors. The Cougar is the school mascot. Mount Mitchell is a local geographic landmark.

Shoulder Loop Insignia: Green, black and white are the school colors. The Cougar is the school mascot. Mount Mitchell is a local geographic landmark. The Trillium flower is a local flower. The lamp of knowledge is a scholastic symbol.

The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and Shoulder Loop Insignia was approved 24 January 2007.
