Origin/meaning

Myślibórz was founded in the 13th century as Soldin, which name was used until 1945. The oldest known seal dates from 1326, but probably dates from the 13th century, already shows the eagle of Brandenburg with the two satrs, and in the base two helmets with the crest of Brandenburg, a black wing. A later, 14th century seal only shows a crowned eagle's head between two stars. On the later seals the helmets disappeared and the eagle was simply holding the wings in its claws.

In the late 19th century the city used again the composition based on the oldest seal, whereas only in the 1980s the city returned to the arms used in the 17th and 18th century. The colours of the stars, helmets, claws and bill have changed during the centuries, as can be seen in the images below.
