Coat of arms (crest) of Nørre Åby

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially registered in 1987.

The arms show four hammers of Thor. The first Hammer of Thor (a common Viking symbol and often used in jewellery) on the island of Fyn was found in the municipality. The hammer also symbolises the handicrafts and industry in the municipality. The hammer was made of silver and the blue symbolises the coastline. As the hammer was found on the spot of the oldest church on the island of Fyn, four hammers were placed in the form of a Christian cross. The four hammers also symbolise the four former municipalities.
