Origin/meaning

Nürtingen was founded by the Counts of Württemberg around 1299, and became a city in 1330. The oldest known seal dates from the same time and shows a horn, most likely derived form the crest (not the arms) of the Counts of Württemberg. The diamond below the horn was most likely originally a jewel hanging below the horn, which was later enlarged.

Around 1632 the deer antler, taken from the arms of Württemberg was added. At the same time two savages as supporters were added, but they are no longer officially used. Otherwise the arms have not changed since. The colours are known since 1535, the colour of the antler has always been black.
