Origin/meaning

Even though Nastätten was already an important village in the 9th century, and a town in the 12th century, it never developed into a city. City rights were granted only in 1817. The oldest seal of the town dates from the 16th century and shows the striped lion of Hessen, as the town was at the time a possession of the Counts of Hessen-Darmstadt. In the 19th century the lion of the County Katzenelnbogen was used, to which the town belonged.

The above arms were devised and adopted in the early 19th century and symbolise the diligence of the population of the town. The colours are derived from the arms of the Counts of Nassau, who also ruled the County Katzenelnbogen.
