NEJDEK
Province: Karlovarský Kraj
District (Okres) : Karlovy Vary
Czech
Origin/meaningThe mining settlement was founded probably at the end of the 12th century near the tin-ore mines by the Hroznata family. It is possible that al ready at that time the town's seal received its original design, which was later taken over by the armorial bearings of the town: deer antlers from the Hroznata arms with crossed mining hammers in between. In the 16th century the town was promoted to a Free Mining Town by the Šlik family, owners of the region at the time. At that time the municipal coat-of-arms was arranged in the form it has maintained up to the present with the smaller arms of the Šlik family under the antlers.
