NEUMARKT-SANKT VEIT (previously Neumarkt an der Rott)

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Mühldorf am Inn
Additions: 1972 Elsenbach, Feichten, Hörbering, Wiesbach; 1978 Thambach (partly)

Wappen von Neumarkt-Sankt Veit/Arms (crest) of Neumarkt-Sankt Veit
Official blazon
German Geteilt von Silber und Rot; oben ein wachsender, Feuer speiender blauer Panther.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms already appear in the oldest known seal of the city, which dates from 1505. The colours are also known from the same time. The arms have not hanged as such ever since, except for some misinterpretations in the 19th century, when the panther was shown as a griffin or a lion.

The panther is derived from the arms of the Counts of Kraiburg-Ortenburg from the Spanheim dynasty. The whole Spanheim dynasty uses the panther. The area belonged to the Counts of Kraiburg since 1248.
