NO 22 SQUADRON, ROYAL AIR FORCE
History: Raised in Gosport in September 1915.
Official blazon
On a torteaux a Maltese cross argent overall a pice sable fimbriated argent.
Motto: Preux et audacieux.
Origin/meaning
The Maltese Cross symbolise that the Squadron was based at Malta when granted the Badge. It was also stationed with No 7 Squadron and had to fly over its lines away from the Airfield. The Mathematic symbol for 22 over 7 is pi π, hence it inclusion in the Badge. Which was granted in May 1936. The Motto translates as "Valiant and brave".
