Oberwesel was in medieval times an important city, and became an Imperial city in 1235. <br>

Origin/meaning

Oberwesel was in medieval times an important city, and became an Imperial city in 1235.
The oldest seal dates from the same time and shows a fortified tower and city wall. The second seal dates from 1268 and shows a similar composition, but now with a King in a gate in the city wall. From 1300 onwards all seals show the Imperial eagle, even though the city became part of the State of Trier in 1312.

Hupp showed the arms a little different, without red claws or beak of the eagle, see below.
