Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 16, 1910, but the exact origins are not known.

The oldest seal of the town dates from the early 18th century and shows St. John Baptist, the patron saint of the town as well as a small shield with the letters V and L. The meaning of the letters is unknown. In a later seal from the 19th century the letters were replaced by a sun. There are no old seals with the present arms or the symbols.
