Official blazon

English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms show a canting otter above a wavy bar, representing the many (small) rivers in the municipality. The chief shows 4 six-pointed stars, representing the 6 former municipalities.

The old arms of Ottrau are shown below:

Wappen von Ottrau/Arms (crest) of Ottrau

The old arms were not officially granted. The arms show a golden garb with a rake and scythe. The image is based on the seal of Ottrau dating from 1800. The meaning of the elements, which were used in many more municipalities in the Ziegenhain region, is not known, they may simply refer to the rich agriculture in the region. Compare for example : Berfa, Asterrode, Riebelsdorf, Röllshausen, Rückershausen and Görzhain.
