Official blazon
Unter gemindertem roten Schildhaupt mit durchlaufendem silbernen romanischen Blattfries im silbernen mit roten Rosen besäten Feld ein schwarzer Panther.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on November 12, 1979.
In the 12th century, Pürgg was a seat of the margraves (from 1180 on dukes) of Styria. They had a chapel built and decorated with Romanesque frescoes. These treasures survive to this day.
The design of the arms was influenced by the frescoes of the Johanneskapelle at Pürgg. The panther, now the Styrian arms, was chosen by the margraves as their personal symbol. The tinctures were changed to a silver panther in a green shield in the 13th century and have remained the same ever since.
