PALFAU

State : Steiermark

Origin/meaning :
Palfau is in the middle of the Austrian Alps and has throughout of hundreds of years been living from the woods around it. The people there were lumberjacks and cutted the trees for the purpose of coal made out of the wood in a near village called Großreifling. Therefore the axe is clear. The other instrument, a boat-hook, was used for transport of the wood on the river Salza to Großreifling. With it the timbers were held together will rafting it.
