The T-cross is the symbol of St. Anthony, the local patron saint. The red and silver colours are those of the State of Trier and the Lords of Schönecken, to which the village historically belonged.
 
The upper half refers to the oak forests, the importance of forestry as well as the collection of acorns as feed for the local pigs. The five acorns refer to the five settlements in the municipality, Plütscheid, Atzseifen, Gesotz, Geweberhof und Mauler Mühle.
