PLAUEN (PL)

State : Sachsen
Incorporated into : 1994 Vogtlandkreis

Wappen von Plauen (kreis)/Arms (crest) of Plauen (kreis)
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The district decided to use its own arms in 1948. Initially the design showed the local Elstertal bridge, but the image was too natural and not heraldically correct. Finally the above arms were adopted, which showed the lion of the city of Plauen and symbols of the locally important textile industries. The arms were abolished in 1952.

In the early 1990s the district adopted the arms below, which were not officially granted.

Wappen von Plauen (kreis)/Arms (crest) of Plauen (kreis)

The lion is the lion of Reuss, the eagle is derived from the arms of the Counts of Straßberg. The base of the shield shows the cross of the Counts of Meissen.
