Portuguese Escudo de prata, uma roda dentada de vermelho entre dois ramos de oliveira de verde, frutados de negro; em chefe, um chapéu eclesiástico de negro com duas borlas e, em ponta, um cacho de uvas de ouro sustentado por folhas de verde. Coroa mural de prata de três torres. Listel branco com a legenda a negro, em maiúsculas : “ PRIOR VELHO - LOURES “.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 29, 1999.

The ecclesiastical hat is a canting symbol (Prior = priory). The olive branches refer to the former olive groves in the parish, of whih only a few trees remain. The coghweel symbolises the many local industries. The grapes refer to the local vinery Quinta da Françelha.
