Origin/meaning

The arms are a combination of the arms of the Kings of Spain and a escutcheon showing a harbour. The name of the town means Royal Harbour and the arms are thus canting. The Royal arms show the lion of Léon, the castle of Castille and the pomegranate of Granada, and are the arms used around 1500, when a new harbour was needed and the town was founded.
