Official blazon
German

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 24, 1979.

The arms are based on the fact that the area was ruled for many centuries by the Counts of Montfort and the Meherau Abbey. The banner is taken from the arms of the Counts of Montfort, whereas the sword and key are the symbols of the patron saints of the abbey (St. Paul and St. Peter).
