Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 26, 1955 to the Siegkreis and continued by the new district in 1970.

The lion is the lion of the Counts of Berg, who owned the largest part of the district for many centuries. The small shield is the arms of the diocese of Köln symbolises the fact that Königswinter and some smaller areas belonged to the State of Köln. The flaming sword is the symbol of St.Michael and represents the influential abbey inSiegburg, which existed from 1064-1803 and from 1914 onwards.
