Origin/meaning

These arms have been officially granted on 14th November 1985.

The angel with the book symbolizes St. Matthew the Evangelist, the local patron saint, as writer of the Gospel (with the letters L and G, the initials for "Liber Generationis"). The local castle (11th century) belonged, since the 13th century, to the Boixadors (family represented here by their arms, a hind Argent on Gules), and later to the families Cardona (represented by a thistle Or on Gules taken from their arms) and Peguera (symbolized by their arms, a crowned lion Gules on Argent).
