Escudo de prata, com uma esfera armilar de negro, circundada por um ramo de laranjeira de verde, frutado de três laranjas de sua cor e por um ramo de espigas de trigo, de verde, os pés passados em aspa e atados por um torçal de vermelho; sotoposta, uma ponte de três arcos de negro, lavrada de prata, firmada nos flancos e movente de uma ponta ondada de três tiras de verde e prata. Coroa mural de prata de três torres. Listel branco com a legenda a negro: “TAVIRA – SANTA MARIA“.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on November 4, 1997.
The bridge in the arms is the typical landmark of the parish and dates from medieval times. The local river changes its name by passing unde rthr bridge from the Rio Séqua to Rio Gilão.
The chief shows a globe, symbol for trade and tourism. The globe is surrounded by the main crops, corn and oranges.
