Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on December 18, 1954.
The upper part of the arms shows the wheel of the State of Mainz, as the area belonged to the Prince-Archbishops of Mainz until 1803.
The lower part shows three pointed battle-clubs, which are taken from a 17th century seal of the Amt Schölkrippen (then a district of Mainz), see below. The origin of these figures is not clear, but the addition of the letters M and W indicate that it is the personal arms of one of the local officials. Being a rather unique figure, it was chosen for the new arms. So far the name of the person has not been determined.

Initially there were three other propositions for the composition on the lower half; the arms of the Geipel von Schöllkrippen family, the arms of the Lauter family (as seen on the local castle), or the arms of the founder of the local castle, Theoderich von Erbach, Prince-Bishop of Mainz. However, the seal provided a much more interesting design and thus the battle-clubs were chosen.
