Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 26, 1976.

The arms show elements of the arms of the former municipalities. The escarbuncle is taken from the old arms, see below. The mining tools are taken from Landsweiler-Reden and Heiligenwald, the cross from Heiligenwald and the leaf from Stennweiler. The silver symbolises a mine.

The previous arms were granted on July 10, 1953.

Wappen von Schiffweiler/Arms (crest) of Schiffweiler

These arms show the escarbunbcle of the medieval Knights von Greiffenclau, who sold the local mines and smithies to the Counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken in 1430. They sold their last possessions in the village in 1599. The black colour symbolises mining.

Literature: Lehne and Kohler, 1981.
