Arms of Kowary

Official blazon

The arms of the city (German name Schmiedeberg) show a white horse and a miner's hammer. The oldest seal of the mining town, dating from 1454, already showed the horse and hammer.

On June 12, 1747 King Friedrich II of Prussia granted the town city rights and new arms. The new arms showed in the upper half the Prussian eagle and the horse and hammer in the lower half. These arms were used until 1945.
