English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were designed and adopted in 1907 when Schwenningen received city rights. The upper part of the arms shows the canting swan (Schwan), the historical symbol of the city. The lower part shows a wheel from a mechanical watch, as a symbol for the local industry.

The oldest known seal from Schwenningen dates from 1797 and shows the swan, the deer antlers for Württemberg and a spring with the letters NU (Neckar Ursprung, source of the Neckar). In 1897 and 1907 the town used only a swimming silver swan in a wavy base of the shield.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
