Origin/meaning

The (recent) history of Sotteville has been shaped by the railroads. There have been several railway repair worshops and there was an important railroad yard. This is symbolised by the bend and the Buddicom locomotive. The Buddicom was a locomotive named after William Barber Buddicom, an English engineer, who equipped the Norman railway lines and designed several locomotives. One of the railway workshops in Sotteville also bore his name

The hive symbolises the industrial activity in the town, the railways, but also the textile industries.

The chief shows the leopard taken from the arms of Normandy.
