The arms show St. George, the patron saint of the Benedictan Abbey of St. George. The abbey was moved in 1007 from Hohentwiel to what is now Stein am Rhein. The town developed around the abbey and became part of Switzerland in the 15th century. The monastery was abandoned after the Reformation, but the saint remained in the arms. | |||

Origin/meaning
The arms show St. George, the patron saint of the Benedictan Abbey of St. George. The abbey was moved in 1007 from Hohentwiel to what is now Stein am Rhein. The town developed around the abbey and became part of Switzerland in the 15th century. The monastery was abandoned after the Reformation, but the saint remained in the arms.
