Origin/meaning

These arms have been officially granted on 24th September 1989.

The city of Tremp developed around the collegiate church of Santa Maria, that dates back to 9th century. The arms have shown traditionally the image of the local patron saint, Santa Maria de Valldeflors, crowned and holding the child Jesus and a bunch of lilies (Valldeflors means literally in Catalan "valley of flowers"); and two fleurs-de-lis, another symbol of the Virgin Mary.
