VELIKA GORICA

County : Zagreb

Arms of Velika Gorica

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on July 22, 1997 in a slightly different version, which was soon after changed to the current version.

The oxen is of the extinct species Bos primigenius native to Turopolje (region around Velika Gorica), after which it was named (tur). The assembly house of Turopolje, today a museum is a recognisable symbol of Velika Gorica.

The three stars and crescent are taken from the coat of arms of the Noble Community of Turopolje granted 1737 by King Charles III.
